The Banneker Adventure Club celebrated the end of the school year and a fantastic season of adventures with a celebration trip to SkyZone on Saturday June 7th. The students who had signed up for and attended four or more trips this year were invited to join chaperones Ms. Robbie, Mr. Smith, Mrs. Warfield and Mr. Warfield for a morning of jumping and pizza at SkyZone Everett.
Arnitra, Ikayrah, Nyah, Charles, Cedric, Kelly, Naima and Sagine all arrived at SkyZone on Saturday ready to jump! We checked in and put on our SkySocks before getting a quick run down of the jumping rules from a SkyZone employee. Once we had heard all of the rules we ran down to the largest of the trampoline areas and immediately started jumping, trying out flips and having a blast.
Now if you have never been to SkyZone, let me take this moment to convince you that it is definitely a place worth visiting. To explain it simply it is a giant warehouse with a floor of connected trampolines where you can actually jump off of the walls. SkyZone Everett has several different trampoline areas including dodgeball courts, basketball hoops, aeroball courts and a giant foam pit. The BBCPS Adventure Club took advantage of ALL these activities and had a blast doing so.
After getting used to the trampolines on the open trampoline court, many members of the group were ready to try something new. Everyone worked on perfecting their flips while propelling themselves into the foam pit (even the chaperones did a few flips). We also had a group of friends start a dodgeball team, and let me tell you-the BBCPS dodgeball team was pretty amazing. Mr. Smith did a great job cheering on the kids as they hurled balls at the opposing teams while jumping 10 feet in the air. It was an impressive feat! Unfortunately we did not keep score, but if we had I am sure team BBCPS would have come out on top.
Jumping was exhausting! Every time we stepped off the trampolines and onto solid ground all of us were compelled to try and jump. Our bodies felt like a thousand pounds and we were confused when we could only jump a foot or so into the air. Many of us cheered on our friends in the aeroball courts while resting and taking water breaks.
After an hour of jumping we were ready for pizza! The hour had flown by, but I think all of us were excited to sit down and enjoy some piping hot pizza! We all enjoyed several rounds of pizza, juice and water in our new SkyZone water bottles. You would think this group would be ready for a nap after all this activity, but we kept on going with the fun after lunch and were able to squeeze in a game of Chi Master (one of Mrs. Warfield’s favorite Playworks games).
Unfortunately all good things must come to an end and the end of our trip crept up on us. We were all sad to leave, but everyone left with a smile. It had been a great day and an amazing trip. We asked the kids if they would want to do this trip again next year and we were overwhelmed with positive responses. We can’t wait for next year!
